Team viewer is a free to use remote screen sharing software for non commercial and personal use. The software is very easy to use and you can easily take control of your friend PC using team viewer.

The normal installation process is simple and once you will run the setup file it will give you two options :

Install
Run

If you going to use The team viewer frequently, install it else run the software. In my case I click on Run. Now on the next screen you will see ID and password on the left hand side and create session ID on the right side.

The id and password given on the left hand side, you need to give it to your partner. In case if you want him to take control of your PC.

You can use Team viewer for :

Create Session, right hand side is use to connect to your partner computer. You need to ask him for the partner ID and password given under the “Wait for Session” (left screen). Once you have his ID and password. Enter his ID into Create session box and on the next pop up enter his password. I hope the below screen shot will clear things for you.

By Entering his password , you will be able to see his computer screen. and you can do everything on his computer. The best thing is your partner can also see what you are doing on his screen and both of you can work together. This is good for some college presentation, mind mapping or such stuff which need group work.

There are many graphic file formats, if we include the proprietary types. The PNG, JPEG, and GIF formats are most often used to display images on the Internet. These graphic formats are listed and briefly described below, separated into the two main families of graphics: raster and vector.

Image file formats(raster)

PNG

The PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file format is regarded and was made as the free and open successor to the GIF file format. The PNG file format supports true color (16 million colors) whereas the GIF file format only allows 256 colors. PNG excels when the image has large areas of uniform color. The lossless PNG format is best suited for editing pictures, and the lossy formats like JPG are best for final distribution of photographic-type images because of smaller file size. Many older browsers do not yet support the PNG file format. The Adam7-interlacing allows an early preview even when only a small percentage of the data of the image has been transmitted.

JPEG
The JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) image files are a lossy format. The DOS filename extension is JPG, although other operating systems may use JPEG. Nearly all digital cameras have the option tosave images in JPEG format. The JPEG format supports 16-bit color and produces relatively small file sizes. Fortunately, the compression in most cases does not detract noticeably from the image. But JPEG files do suffer generational degradation when repeatedly edited and saved. Photographic images are best stored in a lossless non-JPEG format if they will be re-edited in future, or if the presence of small "artifacts" (blemishes), due to the nature of the JPEG compression algorithm, is unacceptable. JPEG is also used as the image compression algorithm in many Adobe PDF files.

TIFF

The TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a flexible image format that normally uses a filename extension of TIFF or TIF. TIFF's flexibility is both a feature and a curse, with no single reader capable of handling all the different varieties of TIFF files. TIFF can be lossy or lossless. Some types of TIFF offer relatively good
lossless compression for bi-level (black and white, no grey) images. Some high-end digital cameras have the option to save images in the TIFF format, using the LZW compression algorithm for lossless storage. The TIFF image format is not widely supported by web browsers, and should not be used on the World Wide Web. TIFF is still widely accepted as a photograph file standard in the printing industry. TIFF is capable of handling device-specific color spaces, such as the CMYK defined by a particular set of printing press inks.

RAW

The RAW image format is a file option available on some digital cameras. It usually uses a lossless compression and produces file sizes much smaller than the TIFF format. Unfortunately, the RAW format is not standard among all camera manufacturers and some graphic programs and image editors may not accept the RAW format. The better graphic editors can read some manufacturer's RAW formats, and some (mostly higher-end) digital cameras also support saving
images in the TIFF format directly. There are also separate tools available for converting digital camera raw image format files into other formats, one such tool being Dave Coffin's dcraw, which is made available under a combination of GNU General Public License and public domain licenses.

Adobe's Digital Negative Specification is a recent (September 2004) attempt at standardizing the various "raw" file formats used by digital cameras.

GIF

GIF (Graphic Interchange Format) is limited to an 8-bit palette, or 256 colors. This makes the GIF format suitable for storing graphics with relatively few colors such as simple diagrams, shapes and cartoon style images. The GIF format supports animation and is still widely used to provide image animation effects.

BMP

The BMP (bit mapped) format is used internally in the Microsoft Windows operating system to handle graphics images. These files are typically not compressed resulting in large files. The main advantage of BMP files is their wide acceptance and use in Windows programs. Their large size makes them unsuitable for file transfer. Desktop backgrounds and images from scanners are usually stored in BMP files.

XPM

The XPM format is the default X Window System picture format (very popular in the Linux world). Its structure is based on the string format of the C programming language. Because XPM was designed to be human-readable, and is stored as uncompressed plain-text, the file size of these pictures can be more than twice as large as uncompressed binary bitmap files (such as BMP, uncompressed TIFF, MacOS-PICT, or Irix-RGB formats). This format is unsupported by most non-Unix software and operating systems (though many web-browsers retain display support for the XBM subset, which was the minimal image format in the early days of the WWW).

MrSID

The MrSID (Multiresolution Seamless Image Database) format is a wavelet compression format used mostly by Geographic Information Systems to store massive satellite imagery for map software.

Vector formats
As opposed to the raster image formats above (where the data describes the characteristics of each individual pixel), vector image formats contain a geometric description which can be rendered smoothly at any desired display size.

SVG

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an open standard created and developed by the World Wide Web Consortium to address the need (and attempts of several corporations) for a versatile, scriptable and all-purpose vector format for the web and otherwise. The SVG format does not have a compression scheme of its own, but due to the textual nature of XML, an SVG graphic can be compressed using a program such as gzip. GIF and JPEG are currently the primary file types for graphics on the Internet. This article provides an overview of each of them, as well as when each format should be used.

The GIF Format

The GIF format is one of the most popular formats on the Internet. Not only is the format excellent at compressing areas of images with large areas of the same color, but it is also the only option for putting animation online (unless you want to use Flash or other vector-based animation formats, which typically cost more). The GIF89a format also supports transparency, and interlacing.

GIF files support a maximum of 256 colors, which makes them practical for almost all graphics except photographs. The most common method of reducing the size of GIF files is to reduce the number of colors on the palette. It is important to note that GIF already uses the LZW compression scheme internally to make images as small as possible without losing any data

When to use them
Generally, GIF files should be used for logos, line drawings and icons. Avoid using it for photographic images, and graphics which have long stretches of continuous-tone in them. When you're designing GIF files, avoid using gradients and turn off anti- aliasing where possible to minimize the file size.

The JPEG Format

The JPEG format, with its support for 16.7 million colors, is primarily intended for photographic images. The internal compression algorithm of the JPEG format, unlike the GIF format, actually throws out information. Depending on what settings you use, the thrown out data may or may not be visible to the eye. Once you lower the quality of an image, and save it, the extra data cannot be regained so be sure to save the orginal

When to use
As a rule, the JPEG format should be used on photographic images, and images which do not look as good with only 256 colors.

How do we do it :

It’s damn simple,we become the Google Bot.

What is a Google Bot :

A Google bot is anauto search bot for the leading search engine,Google. You must have surely experienced the following situation. You go to Google and search for something. You get a whole list of the thing you need but for everything but when you click on it you need to register in order to gain access to the content. Worser still, you need to shell out bucks or give your credit card details to access it. But then you are astonished because if a normal person doesn’t get entry to the site, then how is it crawled by Google? Do they shell out money on each site? The answer is no.

Why such privileges to Google :

Google is undoubtedly the most used search engine in the world.Almost all site get their traffic from Google. Hence, they leave abackdoor open so that google bot can crawl it and get the links on it’s search page. But when you click the same link, it identifies that you aren’t the Google Bot and it denies you the free entry which Google gets.

After browsing over to their website, you will see a big old search box followed by a big blue Find button. That’s all there is to it! I decided to type in something that would not bring up copyrighted materials for this article but hey, you can do whatever you want. I tried and I tried but all of my searches kept returning copyrighted information. I won’t download the actual file but I will walk you through how it works.

I settled down with the search term Simpsons and got a lot of results. Some times RAR files are broken into multiple files. This is denoted by the “part01″ before the file extension. Using this search, I try to stay away from them but your results may vary. I hit the link 7 items down for The Simpsons Season 19 Episode 10.

That took me to another page that returned this information:

It has the actual Rapidshare link as well as its file size. Click the link to start the download. Below, it lists the most recently downloaded files through their service. The site was just recently released so this info should improve over time. Long story short, RapidShare123 is awesome and can be used to kill some time searching for keywords and then watch what you get. It is almost like looking through someone else’s files.

Don’t let the name of this application fool you! DVD Print can print DVD covers but it also does music CDs as well.

The file is just under 700KB and has been downloaded from the author’s website almost 3 million times. And today, I needed to create some cases for my um, well… ahh, MY (Those are the words I was looking for!!) movies that I’ve burnt and am going to move down to the basement for storage. I wanted them to be easily recognizable on a bookshelf so that I can see and grab whatever I want.

Enter DVD Print which can be grabbed from here http://www.dancemammal.com/dvdprint.htm. Once you have downloaded the application, you just need to extract it and run it. This is a portable application, so you do not have to install anything. Once you run the application, you will see a screen similar to this. Also, note that the application asks for registration information that is not discussed on the website or in the documentation. But I have used it for a while now without having any issues. So, if you run into issues or know how to obtain a registration code by all means let us know in the comments!

The left side of the program’s window is what you see above and the right side is a link to a free resource for CD/DVD covers (FreeCovers.co.uk).

Now that you have seen the program – let’s try to make a cover for a movie. Let’s try it with The Simpsons.

Next, you will see the results below the search box. Each result will show what it contains – in this case, I wanted the front DVD Cover so I was looking for the word front. Then, I saw it and clicked on it. The application opens an external website and requires you to download and save the image to your machine to use it.

That’s it! I found it and proceeded to download the cover by clicking Download Cover. The website requires registration but we used BugMeNot to get a username and password.

I saved the image to my desktop. Next, I opened the image in DVD Print by clicking on Open Image.

Then my image appeared in the main window. I hit the drop-down box to choose what I was looking to print. In this case, it is a DVD Box Cover. I hit Preview and it looked great! This was what I saw:

I printed it out and it was perfect! This is a huge help for me and my monsterous DVD collection. Maybe I will start on my music next. Only 750GB of it – that shouldn’t take me too long, right? Maybe this Batch mode from the application will help. I could not find any documentation on it but maybe one of you readers have used it – if you have let us know in the comments!

Google Releasing Chrome Operating System

In a sudden, if not unexpected, announcement this morning, Google said it would release an open-source operating system based on its Chrome browser. The OS will be free, geared (at first) toward netbooks, and focused on "speed, simplicity, and security."

Google executives told the New York Times that Google Chrome OS would be available online "later this year" as a free, open-source download, while specially tailored netbooks running the operating system are targeted for the second half of 2010. The release will not be a remixed version of the Android phone platform, but a "minimalist user interface," with more screen space and computer power given over to web applications.

Google's official blog post lays out some basic but intriguing details on Chrome OS' goals:

We're designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

More specifically, Chrome OS is planned to run on x86 and ARM-based processors, and its architecture is described as "Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel." Developers looking to specifically target the Chrome OS need not apply, as Google says "the web is the platform"—the system will, in other words, run web applications online and offline, and those applications should also work on any standards-based browser on any system (read: most anything, except Internet Explorer, sometimes).

Many who closely watch the search company have predicted a similar move for some time now. To say the Chrome OS will face stiff competition is quite an understatement, with Intel developing its own lightweight, Linux-based netbook platform, Windows XP emerging as a force in netbook OS share, and Microsoft itself likely to fight tooth and nail to keep yet another upstart from encroaching on the one area of PC sales that is still seeing significant growth.

It's easy to assume Chrome OS is a strong push to get users familiar with using Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and other web suites, both online and off. It's harder to figure out the specifics of how Google's platform will overcome the deeply entrenched Windows familiarity that has kept other Linux-based netbook upstarts mostly in check, and how it will accommodate the vast array of x86 hardware compatibility quirks that plagues Linux distributions to this day. Do you know how to clean a CD? Every time you keep your CD outside the pouch, there is a high possibility that the CD could get dirty, smudged or fingerprinted. And the problem with most of you is that you want to clean it but you don’t know how to clean it in such a dirty condition.

For all those who want to clean a dirty CD with minimum effort in the cheapest way, follow the process with simple steps given below in order.

Find yourself a container (a medium sized one which is good enough to submerge a disk in it)
Squeeze into the container a table spoon of liquid soap or window cleaning solution. You can also use all-natural cleaning liquid made out of distilled water.
Now pour clean water into the container and fill it. Now the water should become soapy once it gets mixed with the cleaning solution added whatsoever.
Now put the dirty disk into the container filled with soapy water. Leave it there for about a minute or two.
Now remove the disk from the soapy water container and rinse it with running warm water.
Repeat the process if the disk is still a bit dirty. In case the smudges on the disk are stubborn, you can use a soft cloth to rub soap on those parts.
Finally shake off the excess water and let the disk to dry naturally. Do not use any artificial blower or hair drier.

Now you have your shiny good as new CD which can be easily run on your computer and there are less chances of getting data copy errors on running it.

How to Create Hidden User Account (Hide User Account from Welcome Screen) in Windows

Windows operating systemincluding Windows7, Windows Vista and Windows XP allows multiple user accounts to be created on the computer, be it administrators or standard users. When there is more than one user accounts been defined and created on the PC, Windows will display Welcome Screen, with all available user accounts listed so that user can click and login.

However, showing and displaying of user accounts on the Welcome Screen is probably a weakness in the security point of view, more so if the user account is intended to be a hidden or backup user account. In fact, there is trick to make user account or administrator account that normally been listed on the Welcome Screen to be hidden from view.

In order to hide a user account (which also means create a hidden user account) in Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7, just go to Control Panel User module and create an additional user as usually do (Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts in Windows 7 and Windows Vista). If you already have an existing user that wants to be made hidden, invisible or disappeared from Welcome Screen, then go straight to guide below.

Steps:

1. Run Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
2. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon \SpecialAccounts\UserList

Note: If SpecialAccounts and UserList is not found, create new sub-key and name them accordingly.
3. Select UserList, and in the right pane, right click on any blank space, and point to New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Name the new DWORD registry value name as the exact same name that match the name of the user account to be hidden.

For example, if the user ID of the user account is John, the name the registry value as John.
5. Double click on DWORD registry value, and set the value data to 0 in oder to hide the account from Welcome Screen.

Tip: To display the user account on Welcome Screen again so that it’s visible again, delete the
registry entry, or set the value data to 1.
6. Exit Registry Editor.
7. Log off or restart computer to make the change effective.

How Computer Viruses Work

Computer viruses tend to grab our attention. On the one hand, viruses show us how vulnerable we are. A properly engineered virus can have an amazing effect on the worldwide Internet. On the other hand, they show how sophisticated and interconnected human beings have become.

For example, experts estimate that the Mydoom worm infected approximately a quarter-million computers in a single day in January 2004. (Times Online). Back in March 1999, the Melissa virus was so powerful that it forced Microsoft and a number of other very large companies to completely turn off their e-mail systems until the virus could be contained. The ILOVEYOU virus in 2000 had a similarly devastating effect. That's pretty impressive when you consider that the Melissa and ILOVEYOU viruses are incredibly simple.

In this article, we will discuss viruses -- both "traditional" viruses and the newer e-mail viruses -- so that you can learn how they work and also understand how to protect yourself. Viruses in general are on the wane, but occasionally a person finds a new way to create one, and that's when they make the news.

Types of Infection
When you listen to the news, you hear about many different forms of electronic infection. The most common are:

* Viruses - A virus is a small piece of software that piggybacks on real programs. For example, a virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc.

* E-mail viruses - An e-mail virus moves around in e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim's e-mail address book.

* Worms - A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a specific security hole. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, and then starts replicating from there, as well.

* Trojan horses - A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically.

What's a "Virus"?
Computer viruses are called viruses because they share some of the traits of biological viruses. A computer virus passes from computer to computer like a biological virus passes from person to person.

There are similarities at a deeper level, as well. A biological virus is not a living thing. A virus is a fragment of DNA inside a protective jacket. Unlike a cell, a virus has no way to do anything or to reproduce by itself -- it is not alive. Instead, a biological virus must inject its DNA into a cell. The viral DNA then uses the cell's existing machinery to reproduce itself. In some cases, the cell fills with new viral particles until it bursts, releasing the virus. In other cases, the new virus particles bud off the cell one at a time, and the cell remains alive.

A computer virus shares some of these traits. A computer virus must piggyback on top of some other program or document in order to get executed. Once it is running, it is then able to infect other programs or documents. Obviously, the analogy between computer and biological viruses stretches things a bit, but there are enough similarities that the name sticks.

What's a "Worm"?
A worm is a computer program that has the ability to copy itself from machine to machine. Worms normally move around and infect other machines through computer networks. Using a network, a worm can expand from a single copy incredibly quickly. For example, the Code Red worm replicated itself over 250,000 times in approximately nine hours on July 19, 2001.

A worm usually exploits some sort of security hole in a piece of software or the operating system. For example, the Slammer worm (which caused mayhem in January 2003) exploited a hole in Microsoft's SQL server. This article offers a fascinating look inside Slammer's tiny (376 byte) program.

Code Red
Worms use up computer time and network bandwidth when they are replicating, and they often have some sort of evil intent. A worm called Code Red made huge headlines in 2001. Experts predicted that this worm could clog the Internet so effectively that things would completely grind to a halt.

The Code Red worm slowed down Internet traffic when it began to replicate itself, but not nearly as badly as predicted. Each copy of the worm scanned the Internet for Windows NT or Windows 2000 servers that do not have the Microsoft security patch installed. Each time it found an unsecured server, the worm copied itself to that server. The new copy then scanned for other servers to infect. Depending on the number of unsecured servers, a worm could conceivably create hundreds of thousands of copies.

The Code Red worm was designed to do three things:

* Replicate itself for the first 20 days of each month
* Replace Web pages on infected servers with a page that declares "Hacked by Chinese"
* Launch a concerted attack on the White House Web server in an attempt to overwhelm it

The most common version of Code Red is a variation, typically referred to as a mutated strain, of the original Ida Code Red that replicated itself on July 19, 2001. According to the National Infrastructure Protection Center:

The Ida Code Red Worm, which was first reported by eEye Digital Security, is taking advantage of known vulnerabilities in the Microsoft IIS Internet Server Application Program Interface (ISAPI) service. Un-patched systems are susceptible to a "buffer overflow" in the Idq.dll, which permits the attacker to run embedded code on the affected system. This memory resident worm, once active on a system, first attempts to spread itself by creating a sequence of random IP addresses to infect unprotected web servers. Each worm thread will then inspect the infected computer's time clock. The NIPC has determined that the trigger time for the DOS execution of the Ida Code Red Worm is at 0:00 hours, GMT on July 20, 2001. This is 8:00 PM, EST.

Upon successful infection, the worm would wait for the appointed hour and connect to the www.whitehouse.gov domain. This attack would consist of the infected systems simultaneously sending 100 connections to port 80 of www.whitehouse.gov (198.137.240.91).

The U.S. government changed the IP address of www.whitehouse.gov to circumvent that particular threat from the worm and issued a general warning about the worm, advising users of Windows NT or Windows 2000 Web servers to make sure they have installed the security patch.

Early Cases: Executable Viruses
Early viruses were pieces of code attached to a common program like a popular game or a popular word processor. A person might download an infected game from a bulletin board and run it. A virus like this is a small piece of code embedded in a larger, legitimate program. Any virus is designed to run first when the legitimate program gets executed. The virus loads itself into memory and looks around to see if it can find any other programs on the disk. If it can find one, it modifies it to add the virus's code to the unsuspecting program. Then the virus launches the "real program." The user really has no way to know that the virus ever ran. Unfortunately, the virus has now reproduced itself, so two programs are infected. The next time either of those programs gets executed, they infect other programs, and the cycle continues.

If one of the infected programs is given to another person on a floppy disk, or if it is uploaded to a bulletin board, then other programs get infected. This is how the virus spreads.

The spreading part is the infection phase of the virus. Viruses wouldn't be so violently despised if all they did was replicate themselves. Unfortunately, most viruses also have some sort of destructive attack phase where they do some damage. Some sort of trigger will activate the attack phase, and the virus will then "do something" -- anything from printing a silly message on the screen to erasing all of your data. The trigger might be a specific date, or the number of times the virus has been replicated, or something similar.

Boot Sector Viruses
As virus creators got more sophisticated, they learned new tricks. One important trick was the ability to load viruses into memory so they could keep running in the background as long as the computer remained on. This gave viruses a much more effective way to replicate themselves. Another trick was the ability to infect the boot sector on floppy disks and hard disks. The boot sector is a small program that is the first part of the operating system that the computer loads. The boot sector contains a tiny program that tells the computer how to load the rest of the operating system. By putting its code in the boot sector, a virus can guarantee it gets executed. It can load itself into memory immediately, and it is able to run whenever the computer is on. Boot sector viruses can infect the boot sector of any floppy disk inserted in the machine, and on college campuses where lots of people share machines they spread like wildfire.

In general, both executable and boot sector viruses are not very threatening any more. The first reason for the decline has been the huge size of today's programs. Nearly every program you buy today comes on a compact disc. Compact discs cannot be modified, and that makes viral infection of a CD impossible. The programs are so big that the only easy way to move them around is to buy the CD. People certainly can't carry applications around on a floppy disk like they did in the 1980s, when floppies full of programs were traded like baseball cards. Boot sector viruses have also declined because operating systems now protect the boot sector.

Both boot sector viruses and executable viruses are still possible, but they are a lot harder now and they don't spread nearly as quickly as they once could. Call it "shrinking habitat," if you want to use a biological analogy. The environment of floppy disks, small programs and weak operating systems made these viruses possible in the 1980s, but that environmental niche has been largely eliminated by huge executables, unchangeable CDs and better operating system safeguards.

E-mail Viruses
The latest thing in the world of computer viruses is the e-mail virus, and the Melissa virus in March 1999 was spectacular. Melissa spread in Microsoft Word documents sent via e-mail, and it worked like this:

Someone created the virus as a Word document uploaded to an Internet newsgroup. Anyone who downloaded the document and opened it would trigger the virus. The virus would then send the document (and therefore itself) in an e-mail message to the first 50 people in the person's address book. The e-mail message contained a friendly note that included the person's name, so the recipient would open the document thinking it was harmless. The virus would then create 50 new messages from the recipient's machine. As a result, the Melissa virus was the fastest-spreading virus ever seen! As mentioned earlier, it forced a number of large companies to shut down their e-mail systems.

The ILOVEYOU virus, which appeared on May 4, 2000, was even simpler. It contained a piece of code as an attachment. People who double clicked on the attachment allowed the code to execute. The code sent copies of itself to everyone in the victim's address book and then started corrupting files on the victim's machine. This is as simple as a virus can get. It is really more of a Trojan horse distributed by e-mail than it is a virus.

The Melissa virus took advantage of the programming language built into Microsoft Word called VBA, or Visual Basic for Applications. It is a complete programming language and it can be programmed to do things like modify files and send e-mail messages. It also has a useful but dangerous auto-execute feature. A programmer can insert a program into a document that runs instantly whenever the document is opened. This is how the Melissa virus was programmed. Anyone who opened a document infected with Melissa would immediately activate the virus. It would send the 50 e-mails, and then infect a central file called NORMAL.DOT so that any file saved later would also contain the virus! It created a huge mess.

Microsoft applications have a feature called Macro Virus Protection built into them to prevent this sort of thing. With Macro Virus Protection turned on (the default option is ON), the auto-execute feature is disabled. So when a document tries to auto-execute viral code, a dialog pops up warning the user. Unfortunately, many people don't know what macros or macro viruses are, and when they see the dialog they ignore it, so the virus runs anyway. Many other people turn off the protection mechanism. So the Melissa virus spread despite the safeguards in place to prevent it.

In the case of the ILOVEYOU virus, the whole thing was human-powered. If a person double-clicked on the program that came as an attachment, then the program ran and did its thing. What fueled this virus was the human willingness to double-click on the executable.

An Ounce of Prevention
You can protect yourself against viruses with a few simple steps:

* If you are truly worried about traditional (as opposed to e-mail) viruses, you should be running a more secure operating system like UNIX. You never hear about viruses on these operating systems because the security features keep viruses (and unwanted human visitors) away from your hard disk.

* If you are using an unsecured operating system, then buying virus protection software is a nice safeguard.

* If you simply avoid programs from unknown sources (like the Internet), and instead stick with commercial software purchased on CDs, you eliminate almost all of the risk from traditional viruses. In addition, you should disable floppy disk booting -- most computers now allow you to do this, and that will eliminate the risk of a boot sector virus coming in from a floppy disk accidentally left in the drive.

* You should make sure that Macro Virus Protection is enabled in all Microsoft applications, and you should NEVER run macros in a document unless you know what they do. There is seldom a good reason to add macros to a document, so avoiding all macros is a great policy.

Open the Options dialog from the Tools menu in Microsoft Word and make sure that Macro Virus Protection is enabled, as shown.

* You should never double-click on an attachment that contains an executable that arrives as an e-mail attachment. Attachments that come in as Word files (.DOC), spreadsheets (.XLS), images (.GIF and .JPG), etc., are data files and they can do no damage (noting the macro virus problem in Word and Excel documents mentioned above). A file with an extension like EXE, COM or VBS is an executable, and an executable can do any sort of damage it wants. Once you run it, you have given it permission to do anything on your machine. The only defense is to never run executables that arrive via e-mail.

By following those simple steps, you can remain virus free.

Origins
People create viruses. A person has to write the code, test it to make sure it spreads properly and then release the virus. A person also designs the virus's attack phase, whether it's a silly message or destruction of a hard disk. So why do people do it?

There are at least three reasons. The first is the same psychology that drives vandals and arsonists. Why would someone want to bust the window on someone else's car, or spray-paint signs on buildings or burn down a beautiful forest? For some people that seems to be a thrill. If that sort of person happens to know computer programming, then he or she may funnel energy into the creation of destructive viruses.

The second reason has to do with the thrill of watching things blow up. Many people have a fascination with things like explosions and car wrecks. When you were growing up, there was probably a kid in your neighborhood who learned how to make gunpowder and then built bigger and bigger bombs until he either got bored or did some serious damage to himself. Creating a virus that spreads quickly is a little like that -- it creates a bomb inside a computer, and the more computers that get infected the more "fun" the explosion.

The third reason probably involves bragging rights, or the thrill of doing it. Sort of like Mount Everest. The mountain is there, so someone is compelled to climb it. If you are a certain type of programmer and you see a security hole that could be exploited, you might simply be compelled to exploit the hole yourself before someone else beats you to it. "Sure, I could TELL someone about the hole. But wouldn't it be better to SHOW them the hole" That sort of logic leads to many viruses.

Of course, most virus creators seem to miss the point that they cause real damage to real people with their creations. Destroying everything on a person's hard disk is real damage. Forcing the people inside a large company to waste thousands of hours cleaning up after a virus is real damage. Even a silly message is real damage because a person then has to waste time getting rid of it. For this reason, the legal system is getting much harsher in punishing the people who create viruses.

History
Traditional computer viruses were first widely seen in the late 1980s, and they came about because of several factors. The first factor was the spread of personal computers (PCs). Prior to the 1980s, home computers were nearly non-existent or they were toys. Real computers were rare, and they were locked away for use by "experts." During the 1980s, real computers started to spread to businesses and homes because of the popularity of the IBM PC (released in 1982) and the Apple Macintosh (released in 1984). By the late 1980s, PCs were widespread in businesses, homes and college campuses.

The second factor was the use of computer bulletin boards. People could dial up a bulletin board with a modem and download programs of all types. Games were extremely popular, and so were simple word processors, spreadsheets, etc. Bulletin boards led to the precursor of the virus known as the Trojan horse. A Trojan horse is a program that sounds really cool when you read about it. So you download it. When you run the program, however, it does something uncool like erasing your disk. So you think you are getting a neat game but it wipes out your system. Trojan horses only hit a small number of people because they are discovered quickly. Either the bulletin board owner would erase the file from the system or people would send out messages to warn one another.

The third factor that led to the creation of viruses was the floppy disk. In the 1980s, programs were small, and you could fit the operating system, a word processor (plus several other programs) and some documents onto a floppy disk or two. Many computers did not have hard disks, so you would turn on your machine and it would load the operating system and everything else off of the floppy disk.

Viruses took advantage of these three facts to create the first self-replicating programs.

Google Images Search Options

You know what is the Google Images Search Option? Recently Google are rolling out with Search Options for Google Images. Google promised that you would soon watch similar functionality across their other search properties when they announced the Search Options panel, a few months ago.

The new feature will give you the same layout when you are doing regular Google search with the various options listed on the left side of the image search results page. These image search options include color, size and type.

Color option lets you specify specific colors of the image that you are searching and now includes other including red, pink or green in addition to black and white. If you are looking for an exact kind of image, such as a photo, clip art, line drawing or face, type search is great way to narrow down your results.

Now you can search for a specific image size or any bigger than a definite size in addition to choosing from commonly searched-for sizes. Google have also done up their size search. Particularly any size, including 70 megapixels or more, you can find images now.

It makes faster and easier to unite and toggle between options made by the new layout. For us to add additional image search option in the future, it also makes it easier, so keep your eyes peeled. On the search results page in the blue bar, just click “Show options” to try out any of these tools.

Technology Explained: How Does An Email Server Work?

As an invention, email probably ranks close to the development of alphabets. We may IM and tweet to our heart’s content but it would be wrong to say that these shortcuts have been sired by the humble email to a certain extent. It has revolutionized communications though it may also have sounded the death knell for the art of letter writing. But that’s technology.

Email is serious but it’s several simple technologies at work, something we take for granted when we click compose and send. Behind each email is a powerful engine called the email server which pushes the emails through the internet. Many people use them, but how does an email server work?

To drive a car we need not have the ability to tell a carburetor from a tailpipe, but when it breaks down, that little knowledge helps. Email is less likely to crash but it definitely helps to have a broad picture of how Jim’s mail reaches Jane half across the globe in a blink of an eye.

The Big Picture – How does an email go from Sender to Recipient?

Each email message is nothing but a text file plus the attachments. Just like all data through the internet, an email is also broken into smaller packets. When the sender clicks the send button, all the packets are uploaded to a central computer (the email server) that hosts the email service.

The email service then relays these packets through the internet to the server which holds the email service of the recipient. The mail server of the recipient looks for his email address, locates it and places the email within the inbox. The email client reassembles the packets into a complete mail. The recipient logs into his account and downloads the email.

Step by Step – How the Little Parts Come Together

We use an online email service like Gmail, Yahoo Mail or AOL to compose an email, add attachments and other data files. Also, we use email client software like Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Outlook or Mac OS X’s Mail.

When we send an email, our computer connects to our email service’s mail server. A server is a centralized computer which manages a specific type of service. An email server for instance, handles emails. The email server responsible for sending emails is called the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server. One SMTP server can pass on the mail to another SMTP server and relay it to the destination through several hops.
Every email has the sender’s address (e.g. sender@sendermail.com) and the recipient’s in the To field (e.g. recipient@recipientmail.com). When an email is sent, the email client connects to the SMTP server of the sender’s email service (e.g. mailserver.sendermail.com). The client transmits the address of the sender, the address of the recipient and the content of the message.

The SMTP server goes to work at locating the whereabouts of the recipient. Using the recipient’s mail ID (i.e. recipient@recipientmail.com) it locates the domain name – e.g.recipientmail.com.
Note: If the recipient’s mail ID had the same domain name as the sender, then the process would be simpler. The SMTP server would have transferred the mail to its local outgoing mail server (POP3 or IMAP).
Each domain name represents a unique Web address, called an Internet protocol (IP) address. Think of it as postal addresses of the internet. The link between domain names to their IP addresses is stored in the Domain Name Registry. The SMTP server then contacts the server where the registry is kept (The DNS Server). The DNS server sends back the address to the SMTP server.
The SMTP server then proceeds to hand over the email to the SMTP server of the recipient’s email service (let’s call it mailserver.recipientmail.com). This SMTP server checks and confirms that the mail addressed to recipient@recipientmail.com belongs to it and hands it over to its counterpart – the POP3 server (or the IMAP server).
Post Office Protocol (POP3) servers are the servers that do the job of receiving mails. The number ‘3’ is the version number of the protocol in use. POP3 servers have mail accounts (our email IDs). Each mail account is mapped to a username-password combination. Once the message is handed over to the POP3 server, it is kept and stored in the mail account till the recipient logs in and checks the mail.
An email client connects to the POP3 server and tells it to allow download of the email. Once downloaded to the local machine, POP3 mailboxes do not retain a copy of the email. Thus, you cannot check your emails from another PC as it has already been downloaded. To nail this difficulty, IMAP was introduced. IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol version 4) simply retains a copy of the emails on the server. This allows you to access your e-mail from any location with an internet connection.

Simple notes of difference between POP3 and IMAP4

The obvious differences between the two protocols can be felt. POP3 mails are not limited by mail sizes as they get stored locally on your computer. Also because of less server storage space they are cheaper to support. But they make it difficult to export your emails if you decide to switch email programs or even operating systems.

With IMAP you can just download them again. With IMAP, sent mail and drafts are also uploaded to the server. The one apparent disadvantage of IMAP is its slower speeds because of server based functions.

POP3 is common but IMAP4 is newer and more advantageous for some of these reasons.

Make any song on your computer a ringtone on your iPhone..

So after a bit of reading I've figured out a way to make your own ringtones out of any song on your computer for your iPhone.

It goes like this.

1. Add file(s) to your iTunes library.

2. Right click Get Info, then options tab.

3. Make the start time and stop time the duration of the ringtone you'd like to use (no longer than 40 seconds though). For example, if you'd like to use the first 40 seconds of a song, make the start time 0:00 and the end time 0:40. If you want to use from 1:40-2:20 then do it like that, just make sure you use whichever part of the song you want to be your ringer and also make sure it doesn't exceed 40 seconds. After you've selected which part of the song will be your ringer, click OK.

4. Right click the song, and click 'Convert Selection to AAC'.

5. Go to your desktop, and make a folder called Ringtones. Once you've done that, go back to iTunes, right click the newly created clip and click copy. Paste it in the folder you just made.

6. Rename the file from whateversongyoupicked.m4a to whateversongyoupicked.m4r (in order to see file extensions you might have to play with your settings a bit) (whateversongyoupicked is just the example, you don't need to change the name of the song, just the extension).

7. Double click the file and it will add it to the ringtones library in iTunes.

8. Sync/Resync your iPhone, and it will be added as a ringtone.

1. Type about:config in the address bar and then press Enter.

2. In the filter search bar type network.http.pipelining. Be sure the value field is set true,if not double-click to set true. HTTP is the application-layer protocol that most web pages are transferred with. In HTTP 1.1, multiple requests can be sent before any responses are received. This is known as pipelining. Pipelining reduces page loading times, but not all servers support it.

3. Go back to the filter search bar and type network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. Double-click this option and set its value to 8.

4. In the filter search bar and type network.http.proxy.pipelining. Once opened doubleclick on it and set it to true.

5. In IPv6-capable DNS servers, an IPv4 address may be returned when an IPv6 address is requested. It is possible for Mozilla to recover from this misinformation, but a significant delay is introduced.
Type network.dns.disableIPv6 in the filter search bar and set this option to true by double clicking on it.

6. CONTENT INTERRUPT PARSING
This preference controls if the application will interrupt parsing a page to respond to UI events. It does not exist by default. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Boolean from the pop-up menu. Then:
A. Enter content.interrupt.parsing in the New boolean value pop-up window and click OK
B. When prompted to choose the value for the new boolean, select true and click OK.

7. Rather than wait until a page has completely downloaded to display it to the user, Mozilla applications will regularly render what has been received to that point. This option controls the maximum amount of time the application will be unresponsive while rendering pages. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Enter content.max.tokenizing.time in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 2250000 and click OK.

8. CONTENT NOTIFY INTERVAL
This option sets the minimum amount of time to wait between reflows. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window, select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Type content.notify.interval in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.

9. CONTENT NOTIFY ONTIMER
A. This option sets if to reflow pages at an interval any higher than that specified by content.notify.interval. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Boolean from the pop-up menu.
B. Type content.notify.ontimer in the New boolean value pop-up window and click OK.
C. You will be prompted to choose the value for the new boolean. Select true and click OK.

10. Notify Backoffcount
This option controls the maximum number of times the content will do timer-based reflows. After this number has been reached, the page will only reflow once it is finished downloading. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Enter content.notify.backoffcount in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 5 and click OK.

11. CONTENT SWITCH THRESHOLD
You can interact with a loading page when content.interrupt.parsing is set to true. When a page is loading, the application has two modes: a high frequency interrupt mode and a low frequency interrupt mode. The first one interrupts the parser more frequently to allow for greater UI responsiveness during page load.
The low frequency interrupt mode interrupts the parser less frequently to allow for quicker page load. The application enters high frequency interrupt mode when you move the mouse or type on the keyboard and switch back to low frequency mode when you had no activity for a certain amount of time. This preference controls that amount of time. Right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Enter content.switch.threshold in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 750000 and click OK.

12. NGLAYOUT INITIALPAINT DELAY
Mozilla applications render web pages incrementally, they display what’s been received
of a page before the entire page has been downloaded. Since the start of a web page
normally doesn’t have much useful information to display, Mozilla applications will wait
a short interval before first rendering a page. This preference controls that interval. Rightclick (Apple users ctrl-click) anywhere in the about:config window and select New and then Integer from the pop-up menu.
A. Enter nglayout.initialpaint.delay in the New integer value pop-up window and click OK.
B. You will be prompted to enter a value. Enter 0 and click OK.

Close iTunes and once you have installed it, open iPod Access. If your iPod is not already in "Manual Mode" the program will prompt you to do so as it is neccessary when ripping your iPod:

Tutorial: Beginner’s Guide to Ripping and Uploading Movies

Ok, I've decided to make a tutorial about the entire process of ripping, converting and uploading movies. Now I realise that there is a thousand and one different ways of doing this with many different types of software and I certainly don't claim to know the best or easiest way, however this is the way I do it and it has worked very well for me after having done this dozens of times.

There are 5 main sections to this tut. They are:

• Section One: Ripping a DVD to your harddrive
• Section Two: Encoding it to avi format
• Section Three: Taking screen captures and other info for the post
• Section Four: Splitting the movie into chunks ready for uploading
• Section Five: Uploading to rapidshare.com via Rapid Uploader

What this tut does NOT address (at least this version anyway):

After you have downloaded the above and installed them, you can proceed.

Note 1: If you already have older versions (but not too old) of the above programs, it should be fine.
Note 2: When installing, there are no special options or anything you need to worry about, just keeping clicking Next.

Section One: Ripping a DVD to your harddrive

• First step is to insert the DVD into the DVD drive. For this tut, the example I will be doing is the movie Con Air (1994) with Nicolas Cage.

• After a while, the autorun Windows box will appear asking what action you wish to take. Select Decrypt DVD Video and click OK.

• If the box doesn't appear, simply open DVDDecrypter and it will automatically select the dvd drive with the dvd in it.

• You will see a list of all the dvd files, made up of .ifo .vob and .bup files, on the right side of the program. Since we are only interested in the movie and not the menu's or extra's etc, select Edit along the top menu and click Select Main Movie Files.

• Only the files related to the main movie will be highlighted. DVDDecryptor will automatically select the destination of the rip based on which harddrive has the most remaining space left. You can of course click the little folder and choose your own destination, keeping in mind there should be at least 7GB of space available.

• Click the large button in the bottom left (the one with a pic of a CD, a green arrow and a harddrive) to begin the rip.

• The program will now begin ripping the movie onto your harddrive.

• It depends on the movie but for Con Air, it took about 13 minutes. When it is done, it will display a message box stating the Operation was Successfully Completed and that's the end of the first section.

Section Two: Encoding it to avi format

• First, open up AutoGK.

• Click the folder icon next to Input file and locate the folder DVDDecryptor ripped the movie to.

• Now select the file that ends with the .IFO extension and click Open.

• Now specify an output file (by clicking the little folder and clicking Save).

• Under Audio tracks you can choose which to include and which to exclude. I only want the English 6 channel track so I don't have to do anything. You can also include subtitles but again this doesn't interest me.

• As you can see in the screen shot, just below the Output file, the movie goes for ~1 Hour 50 Minutes. As a general rule I like to use, if the movie is shorter than 1:50, I rip to 1 CD (700MB) size and if the movie is 1:50 and greater I rip to 2CD (1400MB) size.

• So for Con Air I will be ripping to 2 CD's. As this is the default setting in the Predefined size, I don't have to change it.

For a 2 CD encode such as this one, the default setting will be that the audio will remain original from the DVD, in this case 5.1 Channel AC3 surround sound, and not converted. For a 1 CD encode, the audio will automatically be converted to 2 channel MP3 at 128 kbps.

• If you click Advanced Settings you can see some...well...advanced settings. This doesn't concern us, as long as the Auto width, Auto and XviD settings are checked.

You could of course rip in DivX instead of XviD but I personally prefer XviD. Why? Three main reasons:
• It arguably gives better quality and encodes faster than DivX
• It's free, unlike DivX
• It is the scene standard

• It is now time to start the encode. To do this, click Add Job then Start.

• How long it takes greatly depends on your computer specs. I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ and it took 2 Hours 20 Mins to rip Con Air and this is about typical for my PC.

• Various things will pop up (but in minimised state) during the encoding. You can just ignore these, but do not close them. You can check the progress of the rip by browsing through the log window. Once it is finished it will say Job finished along with the total time it took at the bottom of the log.

• AutoGK will automatically split the 1400MB movie into two 700MB files. I would also recommend giving them a meaningful name, in this case I called the first CD:

C0n.Air.1997.AC3.6CH.DVDRip.XviD_CD1.avi

and the second CD:

C0n.Air.1997.AC3.6CH.DVDRip.XviD_CD2.avi

• By this naming convention, a person can see the name of the movie (Con Air), when it was made (1997), the audio type (AC3) and the number of channels (6 CH, for those with surround sound), the quality/source (in this case, a dvd rip) as well as what codec was used to encoded it (XviD) and of course what CD it is (1 or 2).

You may notice the file name is C0n.Air instead of Con.Air. This a completely one-off because "con." is actually a reserved DOS word.

• Before continuing, I would recommend you open the movie and watch a few random parts for a couple of minutes, just to ensure the rip went according to plan and that no audio is out of sync. Testing it now could save a lot of time later down the track.

Section 3: Taking screen captures and other info for the post

• Ok, everyone knows that a good post is post that contains screen caps and info. To take the screenies, we'll use a program called Image Grabber II.

• First open up Image Grabber II, go to File then Open File... and navigate to the first CD and click Open.

• You can manually take pics by sliding the slider and click the Manual Screen caps button. However to save time, click the monitor button and a box will appear asking for the Number of Frames to Extract. I usually take 15 so enter 15 and click OK.

• It will automatically capture frames and display them down the bottom. You can remove any by right clicking on them and selecting Delete. However it's auto selection is usually fine for me.

• Now select File in the menu and click Save File. You can play around with any settings like fonts and colours etc but the default is fine for me. Click Save and save the screen cap into a folder.

• Repeat for the second CD. There is now a series of miniature pics of the movie for downloader’s to have a look at which is also accompanied with the movie name, file size, resolution and duration all in the one image.

• I also like to include 1:1 screen caps, as in if the movie resolution is 672x288 then so will the pics size. I usually include 2-5 and do this so downloader’s can judge the quality and resolution.

• To get these you do the same as above but instead of clicking Save File..., you click Save Multiple... on the file menu and specify a folder to save all the pics to. Now each pic will be an individual image in the correct movie size.

• You can then host the pics. I use tinypic because it's nice and easy and hassle free:

• First click the Browse button and navigate to the image you wish to upload, click Open then click the Upload Now button.

• Now simply copy the second text box content and paste into your post.

• Now to get the technical info about the movie. With AVI2Clipboard installed it is simply a matter of right clicking the movie and selecting AVI2Clipboard on the menu.

• You can do this one of two ways. First is click Save to Clipboard (Normal) and it will copy the info to the clipboard as text so you can paste it into your post.

• Second is instead click View AVI Information then press Print Screen so you can take a screen shot of the info (and paste it in ms paint or something and save it as a .jpg) and put it into the post as an image. I usually display this info as image rather than text for the simple reason that I think it looks neater.

• Repeat for the second CD.

• For my posts I include a link to the movie at imdb:

and also the plot (also taken from imdb). This is so the person knows what the movie is about and has a link to where they can get even more information if they want to.

Section Four: Splitting the movie into chunks ready for uploading

• You're now already to go, you just have to split and upload it. Now, one the most common file hosting sites in the world is rapidshare.com and they have a limit of 100MB per file so the movies have to be split. To do this, we will use WinRar.

If you're thinking of splitting a file with HJSplit or similar, DONT! Programs like those do not provide any sort of error checking, crc's or error repairing and they do not perform diagnostics or testing. WinRar does. If you download the split parts of a movie and they have been split with HJSplit and one or more parts have become corrupt during the download process (which is not uncommon), there is very little you can do except re-download all the parts again because you don't know what the matter is.

With WinRar you at least have options that can salvage a perfectly working video from corrupt files or at least tell you exactly which file is the problem so you only have to download that part again.

• First step is to open WinRar. Go to Tools at the top menu and select Wizard.

• Check Create a new archive and click Next.

• Now select the file we want to split, which in this case is the first Con Air CD.

• Select a destination for the parts and I would recommend changing the name of the archive to something a bit more cryptic than just the name of the movie. For this example I've used the initial's of the movie "CA" plus CD 1. I do this to lessen the chance of having the links reported.

• On the next screen, click Set password... if you wish to have a password for the movie. This is of course optional but I always set a password mainly to prove that it is in fact my own upload and not just taken from another warez site.

• Now in the drop down box on the same screen, select Zip100: 98078 kb so that the archive will be broken into 100MB chunks. After that, click Finish and the process will begin.

• Once it's finished, repeat the same for the second CD and you should end up with 16 files.

• I would also recommend at this point the you extract the movie from the parts to test it and make sure nothing went wrong with the splitting or password. This will save you a lot of time if you find out something did go wrong after uploading all the parts. Now it's just a matter of uploading the files and you're done.

Section Five: Uploading to rapidshare.com via Rapid Uploader

• Now obviously for this section, you have to have a rapidshare premium account. First step is to open Rapid Uploader. It's a stand alone program that will create it's own history and settings files. Because of this, it is recommended you place it in it's own folder.

• Click the Settings tab then the Login tab and under Login-Type check Premium Account (or Collector's Account if that's what you have).

• Now enter your rapidshare account user name and password before clicking the Click here to finalize this option.

• Back on the Upload tab, click the Add button, navigate to the 16 rar files we made earlier and open them. If the uploads don't start automatically, click the Upload button then Upload on the menu.

• You can of course play around with the other Rapid Uploader options and settings to find what best suits you. Once all the files have been uploader, you are now ready to post.

As I've said previously, this is just a beginner’s guide. Once you do a few rips and gain a bit more confidence with not only the software but the entire process, you can start playing around with a few settings and options here and there. Sometimes there is a lot of trial and error involved but doing practice rips will let you see how the results turn out.

If some rips don't turn out how you expected, don't become discouraged and keep trying and take satisfaction in the fact someone somewhere in the world might one day download and watch what you have put your time and effort into.

Again, as I said at the start, this is the process I take BUT this whole process is just one of many ways that can be taken to achieve the same end result. If you're confident and patient enough try other types of software and processes for yourself and see what works best for you.

A n00bs starter guide

1.What is a RAR file
RAR is the native format of WinRAR archiver. Like other archives, RAR files are data containers, they store one or several files in the compressed form. After you downloaded RAR file from Internet, you need to unpack its contents in order to use it.

2.How to handle RAR files
WinRAR provides the complete support for RAR files, so you may both create and unpack them. If you installed WinRAR on your computer and downloaded RAR file from Internet, you may double click on RAR file icon to open it in WinRAR, select all files, press "Extract To" button, enter a destination path and press "OK". Another way is to click on the RAR file in Explorer using the right mouse button. If you enabled "Shell integration" option when installing WinRAR, the file context menu will contain "Extract to ..." item.

Some RAR files can be parts of multi-volume sequences. In WinRAR you can split a huge archive to a few smaller files, which are called volumes. They may have extensions .rar (the first volume), .r00, .r01, ..., or .part1.rar (the first volume), .part2.rar, ..., etc. If you need to unpack volumes, place all them to the same folder and start extraction from the first volume.

3.What is a ZIP file
A file format that compresses data to a small fraction of its original size in bytes. This makes transfer across a network or the Internet much faster. A single ZIP file can contain many individual files that will be reconsituted after the data is uncompressed. The ZIP format is used by many file compression programs. In order to use a file that has been compressed into a ZIP file, you must have a compression/uncompression software program ie WINZIP OR WINRAR.

4.What is a FTP (File Transfer Protocol)Site
An FTP site is like a large filing cabinet. With a traditional filing cabinet, the person who does the filing has the option to label and organize the files how ever they see fit. They also decide which files to keep locked and which remain public. It is the same with an FTP site.

The virtual 'key' to get into an FTP site is the UserID and Password. If the creator of the FTP site is willing to give everyone access to the files, the UserID is 'anonymous' and the Password is your e-mail address (e.g. name@domain.com). If the FTP site is not public, there will be a unique UserID and Password for each person who is granted access.

When connecting to an FTP site that allows anonymous logins, you're frequently not prompted for a name and password. Hence, when downloading from the Internet, you most likely are using an anonymous FTP login and you don't even know it.

To make an FTP connection you can use a standard Web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) or a dedicated FTP software program(flashFXP), referred to as an FTP 'Client'.

5.what is a ISO
ISO files are actually images of complete CDs compiles as one whole image.ISO images can be loaded into several different CD recording software packages to create CDs ie.ALCOHOL 120% or NERO.

6.what is a BIN & CUE file
So you have downloaded two files, one with a .bin extension and one with a .cue extension. "What do I do with these?" you ask. There are a number of options.

BURN TO CD

You will need either NERO or ALCOHOL 120%.
To burn with NERO:
Start NERO, choose FILE, choose BURN IMAGE, locate the .cue file you have and double click it. A dialog box will come up, for anything other than music make sure you choose DISC-AT-ONCE (DAO). You can also turn off the simulation burn if you so choose.
Then burn away.
To burn with ALCOHOL 120%
Start ALCOHOL 120%,choose image burning wizard,locate the .cue file you have and double click it.

.CUE ERRORS
The most common error you will get with a .cue file is when it points to an incorrect path. This is easily fixed. Find the .bin file, copy the exact title including the .bin extension. Now find the .cue file, open the .cue file using notepad. It should look similar to this:

INDEX 01 00:00:00

Delete everything in the quotes, in this case we would
delete name of file.bin. Now place the title you copied
in between the quotes. Save the changes and close out.
Thats it, your .cue file should work now.

OTHER WAYS TO USE .BIN & .CUE FILES

VCDGear:
This program will allow you to extract MPEG streams from CD images, convert VCD files to MPEG, correct MPEG errors, and more.

Daemon Tools:
This program creates a virtual drive on your PC which will allow you to "mount" the .cue file and use whatever is in the .bin file without having to burn it to a cd.

ISOBuster:
This program will allow you to "bust" open the .bin file and extract the files within the .bin

7.What is a MP3 file
Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 File. MP3 files are highly compressed audio tracks, and are very popular on the Internet.

8.What is a OGG VORBIS file
Ogg Vorbis is a new audio compression format. It is roughly comparable to other formats used to store and play digital music, such as MP3, VQF, AAC, and other digital audio formats. It is different from these other formats because it is completely free, open, and unpatented.

9.What is a MPEG file
MPEG-1(.mpg, .dat) is the predecessor to MPEG-2 used for DVDs. MPG files are a lower quality/bitrate format usually at half of the resolution of DVD VOB files. They encompass CD quality 2 channel audio, as opposed to the 5.1 channels found in some DVD VOB files. Quality depends on the encoder used, and can be quite good if done properly.

10What is a AVI file
An AVI is a container format that will hold audio and video. Windows Media Player does support playback of AVI files, but in the past few years their have been many new codec's developed to compress the audio and the video that is inside the AVI file ie DivX, XviD, 3ivX.

11What is a WMV file
WMV is a generic name of Microsoft's video encoding solutions and doesn't necessarily define the technology what it uses -- since version 7 (WMV7) Microsoft has used its own flavour of MPEG-4 video encoding technology (not very surprising, it's not compatible with other MPEG-4 technologies..)

12 What is a rmvb file
this is a file specifically made to be played with Realplayer,the files can be smaller than standard mpeg files

13 What is a MKV file
The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free Container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture or subtitle tracks inside a single file.
[1] It is intended to serve as a universal format for storing common multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. Matroska is similar in conception to other containers like AVI, MP4 or ASF, but is completely open source. Matroska file types are .MKV for video (and audio) and .MKA for audio-only files.

14a.what is x264
x264 is a free software library for encoding H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video streams.

14b.What is H.264
H.264 is a standard for video compression, and is equivalent to MPEG-4 Part 10, or MPEG-4 AVC (for Advanced Video Coding). As of 2008[update], it is the latest block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) together with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), and it was the product of a partnership effort known as the Joint Video Team (JVT). The ITU-T H.264 standard and the ISO/IEC MPEG-4 Part 10 standard (formally, ISO/IEC 14496-10) are jointly maintained so that they have identical technical content.

15.what does PDF stand for

NOTE: The Way How People with Slow Upload Speed can Upload as Fast as the People with High Upload Speeds are because when you slect a Movie to Upload to MegaVideo. Their Server Searches the Server whether that Video Has been Uploaded Before. like it checks all the Minute thing on the Video.

Because its Famous. Other's would have Uploaded it Before you. So When It Finds that the Video is on the Server. It Just Makes a Copy to your account. So its like you Uploaded. (Only Possible with MegaManager.)

Also Note: While Uploading don't put the Video's Real name.
For Example - One Tree Hill S05E12 put it as OTHS05E12
As MegaVideo Deletes these Movies Due to Copy Rights.
But when u put some other name there Server Doesnt Detect the Video.

Also dont Put a really Famous Movie/Episode the same day it was released as when the Hits Count Increase Rapidly, the Video gets Deleted. So Upload After 2-4 days After the Original Release.

Make Sure that you make it private because when it goes to the MegaVideo Site, it gets Exposed and the Video is deleted because of Copyrights!

Hi welcome to my simple guide on how to convert your avi, divx, xvid, mov... movies to DVD so they can be playing in any standard home DVD player for your viewing pleasure.

Convert X To DVD Version 2.x.x.x.xxx Guide

The program you will be using is Convert X to DVD by VSO.

Now edit your settings to match mine, when you have got to know the program better you can change these settings to what you like.

Here pick how long you want your chapters to be repeated, every 3 minutes is a good option.

Now here you must select the correct one for your location or for where you want your DVD to work.

Near the bottom of these pages will tell you what your country or area uses.

Introduction

Cross Site Scripting aka XSS is one of the most common application level attacks that hackers use to sneak into web applications today. They are unique in that, rather than attacking a server directly, they use a vulnerable server as a vector to attack a client. This can lead to extreme difficulty in tracing attackers, especially when requests are not fully logged Unlike most attacks, which involve two parties – the attacker, and the web site, or the attacker and the victim client, the XSS attack involves three parties – the attacker, a client and the web site. The goal of the XSS attack is to steal the client cookies, or any other sensitive information, which can identify the client with the web site. With the token of the legitimate user at hand, the attacker can proceed to act as the user in his/her interaction with the site – specifically, impersonate the user. This was achieved by running malicious Javascript code at the victim (client) browser, with the “access privileges” of the web site. These are the very limited Javascript privileges which generally do not let the script access anything but site related information. It should be stressed that although the vulnerability exists at the web site, at no time is the web site directly harmed. Yet this is enough for the script to collect the cookies and send them to the attacker. The result, the attacker gains the cookies and impersonates the victim.

TYPES OF XSS

LOCAL XSS

This form of XSS is rarely mentioned, because it is very hard to pull off and requires knowledge of either browser exploits or local OS html files. For the first scenario, the attacker could use their website to send malicious commands to the local users vulnerable HTML files(look in /WINDOWS, there are HTML files there) that executes some command on the users system. The second form that this attack can take is using browser exploits. Using a browser exploit, the attacker can plant an activeX script locally on the users system, which can run under local HTML priveleges(all javascripts are allowed without confirmation) and install backdoors, worms, spambots etc.

Non-persistent XSS

This type of XSS attack does no harm to the site itself, and they are created when javascript can be injected into a variable that is echoed back to the user in some way. Say when you enter some text into a search bar and press submits, and the new page that is loaded has what you searched saved in the search bar. You could escape the input tag using “} then inject script, e.g. {script}alert(”war10rd”){/script}. This is only useful in social engineering where you get a user, or administrator, to visit the page with the same parameters you provided to create the XSS, only this time with a cookie stealer script on the page. This will execute for them, logging their cookies to a site you choose

Persistent XSS

This kind of XSS is what is mostly used against guestbooks, forums and other permanent user content pages. When this type of XSS is used it stays on the page and can be used in many ways; stealing cookies, defacing a page, and spreading (the new “XSS worm” phenomenon same as the famous orkut worm)

NOW XSS ATTACK

XSS attacks are the result of flaws in server- side web applications and are rooted in user input which is not properly sanitized for HTML characters. If the attacker can insert arbitrary HTML then they could control execution of the page under permissions of the site. Attackers often perform XSS exploitation by crafting malicious URLs and tricking users into clicking on them. These links cause client side scripting languages (VBScript, JavaScript, etc.) of the attacker’s choice to execute on the victim’s browser. XSS vulnerabilities are caused by a failure in the web application to properly validate user input. The most common web components that fall victim to XSS vulnerabilities include CGI scripts, search engines, interactive bulletin boards, and custom error pages with poorly written input validation routines. Additionally, a victim doesn’t necessarily have to click on a link; XSS code can also be made to load automatically in an HTML e-mail with certain manipulations of the IMG or IFRAME HTML tags (much like the Badtrans worm). There are numerous ways to inject JavaScript code into URLs for the purpose of a XSS attack

Let see one example

Once the page is accessed, the variable sent via the GET method is placed directly on the rendered page. Since the input is not marked as variable input , the user- supplied input is interpreted exactly as its metacharacters command, very similar to SQL injection. Passing “Hacking discussion” as an argument outputs the content in correct form:

At the core of a traditional XSS attack lies a vulnerable script in the vulnerable site. This script reads part of the HTTP request (usually the parameters, but sometimes also HTTP headers or path) and echoes it back to the response page, in full or in part, without first sanitizing it i.e. making sure it doesn’t contain Javascript code and/or HTML tags. Suppose, therefore, that this script is named 1.cgi, and its parameter is “name”. It can be operated this way:

Now explanation

Well, the attacker manages to lure the victim client into clicking a link the attacker supplies to him/her. This is a carefully and maliciously crafted link, which causes the web browser of the victim to access the site ( www.xyz.com ) and invoke the vulnerable script. The data to the script consists of a Javascript that accesses the cookies the client browser has for www.xyz.com . It is allowed, since the client browser “experiences” the Javascript coming from www.xyz.com , and Javascript’s security model allows scripts arriving from a particular site to access cookies belonging to that site.

Such a link looks like:

The victim, upon clicking the link, will generate a request to www.xyz.com , as follows:

The victim client’s browser would interpret this response as an HTML page containing a piece of

Javascript code. This code, when executed, is allowed to access all cookies belonging to

www.xyz.com, and therefore, it will pop-up a window at the client browser showing all client

cookies belonging to www.xyz.com. Of course, a real attack would consist of sending these cookies to the attacker. For this, the attacker may erect a web site (www.xyz.com), and use a script to receive the cookies. Instead of popping up a window, the attacker would write a code that accesses a URL at his/her own site (www.xyz.com), invoking the cookie reception script with a parameter being the stolen cookies. This way, the attacker can get the cookies from the www.attacker.com server. The malicious link would be:

The browser, immediately upon loading this page, would execute the embedded Javascript and would send a request to the collect.cgi script in www.attacker.com, with the value of the cookies of www.xyz.com that the browser already has. This compromises the cookies of www.xyz.com that the client has. It allows the attacker to impersonate the victim. The privacy of the client is completely breached. It should be noted, that causing the Javascript pop-up window to emerge usually suffices to demonstrate that a site is vulnerable to a XSS attack. If Javascript’s “alert” function can be called, there’s usually no reason for the “window.open” call not to succeed. That is why most examples for XSS attacks use the alert function, which makes it very easy to detect its success.

Now Security

As a web application user, there are a few ways to protect your self from XSS attacks. The first

and most effective solution is to disable all scripting language support in your browser and email

reader. another thing is to use reasonable caution when clicking links in anonymous e-mails and dubious web pages. Additionally, as a last resort, proxy servers can help filter out malicious scripting in HTML

Web application developers and vendors should ensure that all user input is parsed and filtered properly. User input includes things stored in GET Query strings, POST data, Cookies, URLs, and in general any persistent data that are transmitted between the browser and web server. The best philosophy to follow regarding user input filtering is to deny all but a pre-selected element set of benign characters in the web input stream. This prevents developers from having to constantly predict and update all forms of malicious input in order to deny only specific characters (such as < ; ? etc.).

Once an application has evolved out of the design and development phases, it is important to periodically test for XSS vulnerabilities since application functionality is constantly changing due to upgrades, integration of third party technologies, and decentralized website authoring. Many vulnerability web application scanners are now starting to include checks for XSS, although it is unlikely that any current automated will be truly comprehensive.

By installing a third party application firewall, which intercepts CSS attacks before they reach the web server and the vulnerable scripts, and blocks them. Application firewalls can cover all input methods (including path and HTTP headers) in a generic way, regardless of the script/path from the in-house application, a third party script, or a script describing no resource at all (e.g. designed to provoke a 404 page response from the server). For each input source, the application firewall inspects the data against various HTML tag patterns and Javascript patterns, and if any match, the request is rejected and the malicious input does not arrive to the server.

Six ways to protect your gmail account from being cracked

What is phishing?

Phishing is the best working method of hacking email accounts. The advantage of phishing in email account hacking is that victim is not able to recognize the fake page (phisher) as this phisher matches with the original page (depends on cracker’s skills).

So, here I have mentioned few tips which you should follow to prevent cracking of your email account by crackers.

1. Phishing filter:
I will recommend use of browser which has phishing filter.Web browsers like Firefox 3.0+ (my favorite), Internet Explorer 7+, Opera 7x supports phishing filter and should be used for safe browsing.

2. Do not provide sensitive information :
Yes, this is the main thing you have to remember. Unless and until, you know the person or institute, do not give your sensitive information like user ids , passwords, bank account numbers as a reply to any email. In fact, 90% emails demanding such information are meant for cracking!

3. Suspicious Filters :
Check whether there are any suspicious filters not created by you. For checking your email filters, go to Settings->Filters. If you find any such suspicious filter not created by you, delete it urgently.

4. Great offers, ads, winners :
Generally, Gmail users are deceived by emails which contain great offers, ads or declaring that you are a lucky winner and you should provide listed query information to receive your cash prize. Never click or provide any information for such claiming emails, unless you’ve actually participated in any of the said competitions, chances are that, you never had!

5. Disable Forwarding and POP/IMAP :
To disable forwarding and POP/IMAP, go to Settings-> Forwarding and POP/IMAP and disable forwarding and POP/IMAP.

6. The most important :
The most important precaution which one must follow is “do not click on the link” provided in the email without knowing to which page the link will take you. I have added my personal experience of phishing and the method to determine the link target, where i received a paypal phisher, in my article Paypal phisher to crack Paypal account. One more thing, always open link given in email by typing address of site in new tab/window.

Thus, if you will follow these guidelines, i bet your Gmail account will never be cracked by a phisher. Just remember the guidelines and prevent Gmail account from being cracked by crackers.

Gary McKinnon

Gary McKinnon, 40, accused of mounting the largest ever hack of United States government computer networks -- including Army, Air Force, Navy and NASA systems The court has recommended that McKinnon be extradited to the United States to face charges of illegally accessing 97 computers, causing US$700,000 (400,000 pounds; euro 588,000) in damage.

Jonathan James

The youth, known as "cOmrade" on the Internet, pleaded guilty to intercepting 3,300 email messages at one of the Defense Department's most sensitive operations and stealing data from 13 NASA computers, including some devoted to the new International Space Station. James gained notoriety when he became the first juvenile to be sent to prison for hacking. He was sentenced at 16 years old. He installed a backdoor into a Defense Threat Reduction Agency server. The DTRA is an agency of the Department of Defense charged with reducing the threat to the U.S. and its allies from nuclear, biological, chemical, conventional and special weapons. The backdoor he created enabled him to view sensitive e-mails and capture employee usernames and passwords.James also cracked into NASA computers, stealing software worth approximately $1.7 million. According to the Department of Justice, “The software supported the International Space Station’s physical environment, including control of the temperature and humidity within the living space.” NASA was forced to shut down its computer systems, ultimately racking up a $41,000 cost.

Adrian Lamo

Dubbed the “homeless hacker,” he used Internet connections at Kinko’s, coffee shops and libraries to do his intrusions. In a profile article, “He Hacks by Day, Squats by Night,” Lamo reflects, “I have a laptop in Pittsburgh, a change of clothes in D.C. It kind of redefines the term multi-jurisdictional.”Dubbed the “homeless hacker,” he used Internet connections at Kinko’s, coffee shops and libraries to do his intrusions. For his intrusion at The New York Times, Lamo was ordered to pay approximately $65,000 in restitution. He was also sentenced to six months of home confinement and two years of probation, which expired January 16, 2007. Lamo is currently working as an award-winning journalist and public speaker.

Kevin Mitnick

The Department of Justice describes him as “the most wanted computer criminal in United States history.” His exploits were detailed in two movies: Freedom Downtime and Takedown. He started out exploiting the Los Angeles bus punch card system to get free rides. Then, like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, dabbled in phone phreaking. Although there were numerous offenses, Mitnick was ultimately convicted for breaking into the Digital Equipment Corporation’s computer network and stealing software.Today, Mitnick has been able to move past his role as a black hat hacker and become a productive member of society. He served five years, about 8 months of it in solitary confinement, and is now a computer security consultant, author and speaker.

Kevin Poulsen

Also known as Dark Dante, Poulsen gained recognition for his hack of LA radio’s KIIS-FM phone lines, (taing over all of the station’s phone lines) which earned him a brand new Porsche, among other items. Law enforcement dubbed him “the Hannibal Lecter of computer crime.”Authorities began to pursue Poulsen after he hacked into a federal investigation database. During this pursuit, he further drew the ire of the FBI by hacking into federal computers for wiretap information.His hacking specialty, however, revolved around telephones. Poulsen’s most famous hack, In a related feat, Poulsen also “reactivated old Yellow Page escort telephone numbers for an acquaintance who then ran a virtual escort agency.” Later, when his photo came up on the show Unsolved Mysteries, 1-800 phone lines for the program crashed. Ultimately, Poulsen was captured in a supermarket and served a sentence of five years.Since serving time, Poulsen has worked as a journalist. He is now a senior editor for Wired News. His most prominent article details his work on identifying 744 sex offenders with MySpace profiles.

Robert Tappan Morris

Morris, son of former National Security Agency scientist Robert Morris, is known as the creator of the Morris Worm, the first computer worm to be unleashed on the Internet. As a result of this crime, he was the first person prosecuted under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Morris wrote the code for the worm while he was a student at Cornell. He asserts that he intended to use it to see how large the Internet was. The worm, however, replicated itself excessively, slowing computers down so that they were no longer usable. It is not possible to know exactly how many computers were affected, but experts estimate an impact of 6,000 machines. He was sentenced to three years’ probation, 400 hours of community service and a fined $10,500.Morris is currently working as a tenured professor at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He principally researches computer network architectures including distributed hash tables such as Chord and wireless mesh networks such as Roofnet.

Vladimir Levin

Levin accessed the accounts of several large corporate customers of Citibank via their dial-up wire transfer service (Financial Institutions Citibank Cash Manager) and transferred funds to accounts set up by accomplices in Finland, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany and Israel.In 2005 an alleged member of the former St. Petersburg hacker group, claiming to be one of the original Citibank penetrators, published under the name ArkanoiD a memorandum on popular Provider.net.ru website dedicated to telecom market.According to him, Levin was not actually a scientist (mathematician, biologist or the like) but a kind of ordinary system administrator who managed to get hands on the ready data about how to penetrate in Citibank machines and then exploit them.ArkanoiD emphasized all the communications were carried over X.25 network and the Internet was not involved. ArkanoiD’s group in 1994 found out Citibank systems were unprotected and it spent several weeks examining the structure of the bank’s USA-based networks remotely. Members of the group played around with systems’ tools (e.g. were installing and running games) and were unnoticed by the bank’s staff. After reading an article about phone phreaking in Esquire, Wozniak called up his buddy Jobs. The pair did research on frequencies, then built and sold blue boxes to their classmates in college. Wozniak even used a blue box to call the Pope while pretending to be Henry Kissinger.
