Disable Auto-Run of Windows Messenger

You need to edit the registry keys using regedit.exe

if you haven't use registry editor before, here is how you need to do it

Click start>run>type "regedit"

it will open up registry editor.

HKEY_current_USER\software\ microsoft\windows\currentVERSION\RUN. Delete the Value named msmsgs.
